Introduction

Welcome to Mr. Hoos' class pages

     During the course of the year I will be teaching units in Soccer, Gymnastics, Floor Hockey, Archery, Cooperative Games, and Track and Field. I am looking forward to the new school year, and to see who will become a PE standout or make one of my Wall of Fames!!!

Current Unit

  Track and Field 

     Students will be introduced to 14 various running, jumping, and throwing Track and Field events including the 50 yard dash, long jump, high jump, discus, and shot put.  During the unit students will keep track of their participation by filling out personal performance charts on a daily basis.  Students who are not participating can help time, measure, and record other students.

PE Highlights from 2017-18

6th Grade Long Jump Record Broken

  Congratulations to Adam Vargas for breaking the 6th grade Long Jump Record.  His jump of 14' broke the old record by three inches which was established in 2006.

The World Record for the men's long jump is 29'4" by American Mike Powell set in 1991.

Shuttle Run Record broken

Congratulations to Adam Vargas for breaking one of the oldest records in the school.  His time of 8.46 in the shuttle run broke the old record by 3 hundredths of a second which was set in 2001.

 New 7th Grade Broad Jump Record

Congratulations to Vittoria Grady for breaking the girls 7th grade Broad Jump Record by two inches with a jump of 7'6".

The current World Record for the Broad Jump is 12' 2 3/4" by American Byron Jones which was set in 2015.

Mile Record Broken

  Congratulations to Kaleigh Gunsiorowski who smashed the 7th grade girls mile record with a time of 5:50.  Her time beat the 2006 record by an amazing 18 seconds.

The women's world record for the mile is 4:12.56 by Svetlana Masterkova of Russia set in 1996.

880 Record Broken

Kaleigh Gunsiorowski also broke the 1/2 mile record also known as the 880.  Her time of 2:38 broke the old record by 17 seconds.

New 440 Record 

Congratulations once again to Kaleigh Gunsiorowski who continues her assault on the 7th grade middle and long distance records.  Kayleigh's record time of 1:09.03 in the 440 broke the old record more than two seconds.

The women's World Record for quarter mile is held by Marita Koch of East Germany.  Her time of 47.60 set in 1985 is one of the oldest track records still standing.

 6th Grade Rope Jump Rope Record Broken

Congratulations to Peter Philippakos for breaking the 6th grade rope jumping record.  His time of 15:01 broke the record by almost a minute.  The old record had been broken earlier in the year by Jack Forfa.  The old record of 11:44 had stood since 2001.

50 Yard Dash Record Broken

Congratulations to Adam Vargas for finally breaking the 6th grade 50 yard dash record after falling just short several times.  His time of 6.00 broke the old record by .19 which had been established in 2015.

The World Record for the 50 yard dash is 5.22 held by American Stanley Floyd set in 1982.  The unofficial record is 5.11 by Jamaican Usian Bolt which was his 50 yard split on way to his 100 meter World Record time of 9.58 set in 2009.

Broad Jump Record Broken

  Congratulations to Adam Vargas for finally breaking the 6th grade Broad Jump record.  After initially tying the record at 7'5", his record breaking jump of 7'6" came in the last week of school.  The old record had been established in 2011. 

Currently, Norway is the only country where the standing broad jump is still held as a national championship.
